Storkyrkan/S:t Nicolai church

The first building on the site was consecrated in the 13th century and, according to tradition, was erected in 1264 thanks to gifts from Earl Birger. Storkyrkan is a five-nave hall church built of brick. The plan is somewhat irregularly rectangular, with full-width, straight-ended choirs. The west tower is flanked by two extensions. A stairwell is added to the southern one. The baroque design of the facades breaks with the Gothic style of the interior. The buttresses have been designed as lintels with band rustication. The horizontal line is reinforced by the strong cornice and the tower is enlivened by corner chains, pediments and an ornate lantern.
The tower is 66 meters high and four church bells hang in it.
Inside the church there is the sculpture Saint Goran and the dragon as well as a copy of the famous Vädersolstavlan, which was commissioned by Olaus Petri Religious Community: Swedish church
