Sankt Göran's Church

As early as 1910, a chapel had been built on the site of the current church, designed by the architect Gustaf Améen. It was named St. Göran's Church, probably inspired by the adjacent St. Göran's Hospital. Over time, the chapel was considered less useful and was demolished in 1955, but the tower building had to remain. The current church was designed by the architect Adrian Langendal and inaugurated on Easter Sunday 1958. In the classic form of the basilica, Langendal wanted to create a church space that is "timeless and self-evident - like a straight line". In the tower, which remains from the old church, hang two church bells, which were also in the old church. One of them bears the inscription:
Sound with a command from on high
over the noise and noise of the city!
Urge the children of labor to pray!
Gather them in the House of the Lord
Under the church is a columbarium where around 4,000 niches have room for 10,000 ashtrays. It was inaugurated in 1958 and expanded in 1967. On the facade above the main entrance is a gilded copper sculpture called Girl with Lily. It was created by the sculptor David Wretling, who was also responsible for many works in the interior. //Wikipedia
