Raoul Wallenberg's Square

Raoul Wallenbergs torg is a square located at Nybroplan in central Stockholm, named after the Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg. The square was inaugurated on 11 December 1987. The memorial, which consists of twelve sphinx-like stone sculptures cast in bronze, as well as Raoul Wallenberg's signature (also in bronze), was inaugurated on 24 August 2001 by King Carl XVI Gustaf. In June 2006, another memorial was erected on the site, The Road, by architects Aleksander Wolodarski and Gabriel Herdevall, commissioned by the Jewish congregation and the City of Stockholm. This consists of a stone globe with the inscription "The road was often straight where Jews were led away to be killed", from which a paved road with railway tracks to the Great Synagogue in Stockholm. The road connects the city, via Raoul Wallenberg's square, with the older Holocaust monument Victims of the Holocaust by the synagogue. //Wikipedia
