Katarina Elevator

The Katarina lift is a 38 meter high public passenger lift in the Slussen area on Södermalm in Stockholm. The facility connects Katarinavägen at Slussen via two footbridges with Mosebacke torg. The new lift, which consists of one large cabin instead of two small ones as before, was manufactured by Hissgruppen and opened on 18 October 2023. On 27 November 2023, the lift was closed as the lift could not cope with the weather conditions and is expected to open again in May 2024.
In 1881, engineer Knut Lindmark received permission from the city council to build an elevator and a footbridge between Stadsgården and Mosebacke torg, this to make it easier for people to get around this hilly part of Södermalm. The elevator was called the Elevatorn.
