Hesselby Castle

The farm was built in the 1650s possibly according to drawings by architect Simon de la Vallée and is thus one of the oldest preserved profane buildings in Stockholm. The resort has an interesting shape with the tower-finished wings set at a weak angle inward. The main building is two floors along with two wings with the towered higher pavilions. The main building has smooth, bright yellow facades with decorative anchor iron from the 17th century and a sandstone portal crowned by Gustaf Bondes and his second wife's Christina Night and Day Coats of Arms. A granite double staircase leads up to the portal. This staircase from the 1860s replaces a former sandstone staircase. The courtyard is laid in a pattern of squares and is completely closed through higher walls with gates between the main building and the wings and through a higher wall between the tower pavilions of the wings.
